Railway Operations and Control

This course provides a fundamental understanding of railway operations and control, and a know-how of designing and analyzing safety and signaling systems (e.g. train detection, route control). The course focuses on the interaction of various system elements (actors, trains, tracks, signaling etc.) and the fundamentals of railway safety and signaling. Those two aspects, which are influenced by policy, principles and (safety) legislation, have a major impact on the design and performance of railway operations. It is therefore important to integrate both technical and organizational systems when it comes to the analysis of railway operations and control. This integration, amongst others, will be dealt with in this course.
